My name is Ms. Ingram and today we are going to be learning about living things and non-living things.
Do you know the difference between living and non-living things?
Living things move, respond to stimuli, reproduce and grow, respire, and are dependent on the environment. Most living things need food, light, certain temperatures, and oxygen.
Non-living things are all of the things that are not classified as living things. Some non-living things, such as rocks, and water, were never living. Once a living thing has died, it becomes a non-living thing. Non-living things may do some of the things that living things do.
For example, a car moves, and so does a river, but does this mean it is a living thing? No. A living thing can reproduce and grow, a car or river cannot reproduce or grow.
Do you think wood is a living thing? Wood comes from a living thing (a tree) but it is no longer living if the tree is cut down.
Is a flower a living thing? Yes. Although we often do not see a flower move, a flower can reproduce and grow. Therefore, it is a living thing.
Below is a video to help you understand the difference between living and non-living things.
Living vs Non-living Things
Tomorrow we will further discuss living vs. non-living things. We will go for a walk around the community to discover some living and non-living things. I hope you enjoyed learning about the difference between the two.
See you tomorrow!
Ms. Ingram

I really enjoyed your blog Dominique! Lots of great information given, with some great pictures to support it. As well I think that going for a walk with the students is a great idea to discover living and non living things, as well as to get them out in another atmosphere!
ReplyDeleteHello Ms. Ingram !
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog. It provided me with a lot of information on what living and non-living things are. Your blog really stood out to me because of the layout and pictures that you included. I watched the video that you included and I thought it was a great way to engage students. I think that this would be a great way to introduce students to living and non-living things and you could even bring in a few examples.
